A look at Cape Town long ago
SEA POINT STATION c.1892
The first railway line in the Cape of Good Hope was built by the Cape Town Railway and Dock Company after it was awarded the contract on 6 August 1858. The first trains servicing the wine-growing regions between Cape Town and Wellington started running on this line in 1862. It was only in 1892 that the Metropolitan and Suburban Railway Company constructed a line to Sea Point. This station no longer exists – Dock Road, which runs through the V&A Waterfront to Three Anchor Bay, was built in its place in the 1930s.
